The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a 10-year prison sentence against Abdiqani Haji Ibrahim after he was convicted of attempting to murder a police officer in Wajir County.
Wajir Senior Resident Magistrate Erick Malesi sentenced Ibrahim after finding him guilty of attempted murder contrary to Section 220(a) of the Penal Code.
The court heard that on June 16, 2025, Ibrahim unlawfully attempted to kill Emmanuel Juma Khaemba, a police officer attached to Wajir Police Station.
According to the prosecution, led by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Robert Nyoro, the incident occurred at Baraza Park in Wajir Township as Khaemba was heading to report for duty.
Ibrahim allegedly attacked the officer with a Somali sword, stabbing him on the left shoulder.

Following the attack, Ibrahim went into hiding before he was arrested on July 22, 2025, by officers from Wajir East Police Station.
Police recovered the weapon allegedly used in the attack during a search conducted at the time of Ibrahim’s arrest.
He was presented before court on July 23, 2025, and charged with attempted murder.
The case proceeded to full trial, with the prosecution calling six witnesses in support of the charge.
Police Inspector Kennedy conducted an identification parade during which the complainant positively identified Ibrahim as the person who had allegedly attacked him.
After considering the evidence presented by the prosecution, the court convicted Ibrahim under Section 215 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
During sentencing proceedings held on August 17 and 18, 2026, the court considered the gravity of the offence and the conduct of the accused as aggravating factors before imposing a 10-year prison term.
Ibrahim has been granted 14 days to appeal against the sentence.
