Seven people have died after a light aircraft crashed at Mt Ololokwe in Samburu County, with authorities confirming that there were no survivors.
The aircraft, identified as Lady Lorry, was traveling from Soyian in Laikipia to Loisaba Conservancy when it crashed in the Mt Ololokwe area.
The deceased were identified as the pilot, Josh Outran, and passengers Roger Duarte, Adam Navaty, Stephen Vasconquez, Henry Parra, Michael Contugi and Suian Suarez.
Samburu County Police Commander David Nkoroi confirmed the incident saying response teams observed thick smoke rising from the crash site before heading to the area to conduct emergency operations.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) also confirmed the aircraft accident, identifying the aircraft involved as a Eurocopter EC130 B4, registration 5Y-GYM.
According to KCAA, the aircraft had departed from Loisaba and was heading to Ewaso Ngiro when the accident occurred at approximately 0915hrs.
“KCAA is coordinating with the relevant agencies and stakeholders in response to the accident. The Ministry of Roads and Transport, Air Accident Investigation Department is leading investigations on circumstances surrounding the accident,” the Authority said in a statement.
The Air Accident Investigation Department, which operates under the Ministry of Roads and Transport, has taken charge of determining the circumstances surrounding the crash.
KCAA said it would continue working with relevant government agencies and other stakeholders as investigations into the accident continue.
The cause of the crash had not been established by the time of reporting.
