Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has moved to counter the opposition’s growing unity campaign in the Mt Kenya region, insisting that President William Ruto’s development record and service delivery will ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Sunday during the 36th anniversary thanksgiving service of the ACK Diocese of Embu at Kigari Teachers Training College in Embu County, Kindiki said leaders allied to President Ruto had resolved to keep politics away from church platforms and instead focus on development and national unity.
“As leaders under the leadership of President William Ruto, we have agreed that we will not use the altar to do foolish things, deliver confusing messages, destroy communities or divide people,” he said.
The Deputy President emphasized that the government values the role of the church and remains open to guidance and correction from religious leaders.

“Whatever you want us to improve or correct in leadership, we will do so. We will listen because we are human beings, and government is a human institution that can always be improved through your guidance and input,” he said.
In remarks widely interpreted as a response to political leaders seeking to consolidate support against the Kenya Kwanza administration in the Mt Kenya region, Kindiki dismissed claims that the region was facing political uncertainty.
“There are people speaking as though the world is coming to an end. There is no problem. We are here, and we are not going anywhere,” he said.
The Deputy President described himself as the “fireman” who would ensure the region remains united and warned against attempts to sow divisions among communities.
“I come from this region, and I do not want our communities to be divided. We are one people,” he said. “Those who think they will bring confusion to Mt. Kenya by making people speak in different voices and dividing them should relax.”
Kindiki maintained that voters would ultimately judge leaders based on their performance and development achievements rather than political rhetoric and public criticism.
“What will save the President, the Deputy President, governors, Members of Parliament and all leaders is the work they have done for the people, not the noise being made,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the Kenya Kwanza administration’s prospects in the next election, Kindiki referenced the coalition’s previous political victories and said the government remains focused on delivering its promises to Kenyans.
“If we won when President Uhuru Kenyatta was in The Hague with President William Ruto, then next year is a small matter. Pray only for good health and God’s favour,” he said, adding that God rewards humility and service.
The Deputy President also commended the Anglican Church for its contribution to education, healthcare, water projects and youth empowerment, noting that the government’s development agenda aligns closely with the church’s mission of improving people’s lives.
“It is not enough to prepare someone for salvation; it is equally important to ensure they have a good education, access to livelihoods and empowerment so that they can serve God with dignity as they await heaven,” he said.
He concluded by urging Kenyans to embrace national unity and peaceful coexistence, saying the country’s diversity should be viewed as a source of strength rather than division.
“We are one community and one country, and we have no other home to go to,” Kindiki said. “Kenya is our homeland, and we must protect it, love it and live together in peace.”
