The National Police Service (NPS) has appealed to residents in parts of Meru, Isiolo, Samburu and Laikipia Counties to share intelligence information as authorities intensify efforts to curb rising banditry.
The call follows a surge in attacks that police say have caused significant suffering in parts of Meru, including Buuri East, Tigania East and West, as well as Igembe North, Central and Mutuati.
“Cattle have been stolen, several lives have been lost, and injuries have been reported. This is totally unacceptable and must be eradicated,” the NPS said.
Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said a multi-agency security operation has been deployed to recover stolen livestock and mop up illegal firearms and ammunition in the affected regions.

In a statement issued on Saturday, March 21, Nyaga urged members of the public with relevant information to report to the nearest police station or contact law enforcement officers.
He noted that information can also be shared through toll-free numbers 999, 911, and 112, or anonymously via the “Fichua kwa DCI” hotline at 0800722203 and WhatsApp number 0709570000.
Beyond Meru, the security operations is targeting key hotspots including Mukogondo Forest in Laikipia, Lantana and Sereolipi in Samburu East, and Kipsing and Ngaremara in Isiolo.
Nyaga said a large number of security personnel have been mobilised, supported by aerial surveillance and rapid-response units to enhance efficiency and ensure safety during the operation.
He described the initiative as a coordinated deployment aimed at dismantling criminal networks responsible for persistent insecurity in the region.
“Residents in the targeted areas are urged to offer their maximum cooperation to security personnel, share intelligence, and ensure that banditry and related criminal activities are brought to an end,” he said.
The spokesperson emphasised that public cooperation will be critical in preventing further attacks and protecting vulnerable communities.
“The NPS is committed to eradicating all forms of criminality while remaining steadfast in ensuring public safety and security,” Nyaga added.
