Six students were injured after a school bus overturned along the Bomet-Kaplong Highway on the evening of Sunday, August 3, while transporting learners to the annual national music festival.
Preliminary reports indicate the students were travelling from Nairobi when the accident occurred in Bomet County. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been established, and police have launched investigations.
Images from the scened showed the bus lying on its side after apparently losing control. With the main doors blocked by the impact, students escaped through the emergency exit with assistance from members of the public who rushed to help.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and treated the injured students before they were taken to Kaplong Mission Hospital for further medical attention. Authorities confirmed that all six students are in stable condition.
No other vehicle was involved in the accident.
The last incident has renewed concerns over road safety involving school transport, particularly during periods when students travel long distances for national events and competitions.
The Bomet-Kaplong Highway has witnessed several serious road accidents in recent years. In May, a fatal collision involving a double-cabin pickup and a motorcycle occurred at Meja-Chepkosa along the same route.
The accident also comes just days after another tragic crash on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway at Lessos Junction, where six people, including three students, lost their lives following a collision involving a private van, a trailer and a 14-seater matatu.
In a separate incident on July 28, at least 13 students were injured after two school buses carrying 101 pupils were involved in a road accident in the Riting area of West Pokot County.
Authorities have urged motorists transporting students to exercise extra caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further road tragedies.
