Mukurweini MP John Kagichia has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after spending the night at Royal Media Services (RMS) offices, where he had sought refuge over fears of an imminent arrest.
The legislator was apprehended on the morning of Monday, August 3, after remaining inside the media house overnight. Kaguchia had earlier claimed that unidentified individuals in unmarked Subaru vehicles were pursuing him following an appearance on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi programme.
In a series of social media posts, the MP alleged that police officers had surrounded the Royal Media Services premises and erected roadblocks outside the compound with the intention of arresting him.
“After my Kiririmbi Show this evening, a contingent of Police have surrounded Royal Media Studios and erected road blocks with intentions of arresting me. I will NOT BE INTIMIDATED whatsoever,” Kaguchia wrote.

Despite remaining inside the media house throughout Sunday night, detectives reportedly maintained their presence outside the premises. Unconfirmed reports indicated that vehicles along Dennis Pritt Road were being stopped and searched as security officers monitored the area.
On Monday morning, Kaguchia confirmed that investigators were probing him over remarks he allegedly made during a political rally in Kieni, Nyeri County.
The lawmaker also accused government digital strategist Dennis Itumbi and other state operatives of circulating what he described as. false information that contributed to his arrest.
Kaguchia, who is considered a close ally of Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, came under scrutiny after remarks made during a rally on Saturday, August 1.
Authorities are reportedly investigating comments interpreted as suggesting that Mt. Kenya residents would face consequences if they supported President Ruto in the 2027 General election.
The MP is expected to be taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ regional headquarters along Valley Road in Nairobi for further questioning.
His arrest comes amid an intensified crackdown on politicians accused of making inflammatory public statements. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has recently opened investigations into several prominent political figures, including former DP Rigathi Gachagua, Health CS Aden Duale and Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku, over alleged hate speech and incitement.
