The award recognises Ng’itit's leadership and work in advancing women's empowerment, supporting vulnerable communities and promoting opportunities for women and girls.

Her grassroots initiatives in Turkana have focused on girls' rights, women's economic empowerment, education and support for vulnerable households.

Among the initiatives associated with her office is the distribution of diesel-powered and electric posho mills to rural communities. The programme has helped women in remote areas access maize milling services closer to their homes, reducing the need to travel long distances.

Her office has also supported education programmes targeting students from disadvantaged backgrounds, alongside initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods among marginalised groups.

The latest recognition adds to a series of awards Ng’itit has received in 2026. She was also recognised at the Thamani Africa Awards and the Bobea Leadership Awards for her work as a woman representative.

Focus on women and community development

Ng’itit continues to represent the people of Turkana in the National Assembly, with her development agenda highlighting issues including security in dryland communities, access to education and maternal healthcare.

Her latest award places her among the Kenyan women leaders receiving international recognition for their work in community development and women's empowerment.

For women and girls in Turkana, the recognition also brings attention to the importance of expanding opportunities, strengthening economic independence and supporting leadership among women from marginalised communities.
