Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested the Deputy Officer Commanding the Station (OCS) attached to the Drive-In Police Post over alleged links to the abduction and robbery of a couple in Nairobi.
According to preliminary investigations, the victims had travelled to the Baba Ndogo area on Thursday afternoon to deliver a smartwatch that had been purchased through an online marketplace.
Police say that upon arrival, the couple was intercepted by three men travelling in a white saloon car. The suspects allegedly forced the pair into the vehicle before driving towards Thika Road.
Investigators say the gang demanded KSh1 million from the victims in exchange for their freedom.
After one of the victims managed to withdraw a small amount of money, the suspects reportedly drove the couple to a bank in Githurai to obtain more cash.
While inside the bank, the male victim discreetly alerted a staff member, who immediately notified police officers.
Security officers responded swiftly, prompting the suspects to flee the scene. During the pursuit, police arrested one suspect while others escaped, with one of the victims still inside the getaway vehicle.

The female victim was later released unharmed along Kamiti Road, although the couple lost several mobile phones valued at approximately KSh120,000, in addition to the smartwatch they had intended to deliver.
Following the arrest of the initial suspect, detectives carried out further interrogations that reportedly led them to the Deputy OCS of Drive-In Police Post.
The officer was arrested later that evening and remains in police custody as investigations continue. Detectives are also pursuing other suspects believed to have participated in the alleged kidnapping and robbery.
The DCI has since taken over the case and is working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The arrest comes amid growing concerns over violent crime in Nairobi, with authorities reporting an increase in armed robberies targeting businesses and residents.
Earlier this week, police shot dead one suspected gang member and arrested eight others during an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal networks operating in Nairobi and its outskirts, including Joska.
Speaking on Wednesday, Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said the operation led to the recovery of more than 200 mobile phones, four pistols, and ammunition believed to have been used in a series of robberies along Thika Road, Mombasa Road, and other areas within Kiambu County.
