Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has reiterated his desire to retain key players Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson Becker amid growing transfer speculation surrounding the duo ahead of the new season.
Speaking during Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the United States, Iraola described Mac Allister as one of the club’s standout performers and stressed the importance of keeping top talent at Anfield.
The Argentina international has two years remaining on the five-year contract he signed after joining Liverpool in 2023. However, reports linking him with a potential move away from the club have intensified after contract extension talks failed to materialize.
Iraola dismissed concerns over the midfielder’s future, insisting Liverpool’s focus is on strengthening the squad rather than losing key players.
“Alexis has been one of the best players at the club for the last few years, and he has had a very good World Cup, so it is normal that other clubs want our best players,” Iraola said.

“But I want to keep my good players. I’m looking forward more to signing new players rather than losing the ones we have here.”
Alisson Remains Key Figure at Anfield
Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker has also been linked with a move away from Merseyside, with Italian giants Juventus reportedly interested in signing the Brazilian shot-stopper.
Despite the speculation, Iraola emphasized Alisson’s value both on and off the pitch, highlighting his leadership qualities and experience within the squad.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper has one year remaining on his current contract and is expected to play a vital role as Liverpool integrates new signings and younger players into the team.
“Alisson is someone in the dressing room who has a lot of experience and leadership,” Iraola said.
“We need references like Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Joe Gomez—players who have been here for a long time and can help guide the squad.”
Liverpool Seeking Defensive Reinforcements
While determined to retain his senior stars, Iraola admitted Liverpool are actively exploring defensive additions during the transfer window.
The Reds are particularly short at right-back following a knee injury suffered by Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley in January.
Iraola revealed Bradley remains months away from making a full return, leaving Liverpool with limited options in defense.
“If you have a fully fit Conor Bradley, we are very happy and ready to go,” Iraola explained.
“But right now he is still a little far from returning. With the centre-back and right-back situation, we are very thin in terms of defensive depth, so it is a solution we are trying to find.”
Liverpool are expected to remain active in the transfer market as they prepare for the 2026/27 campaign, with defensive reinforcements now emerging as a key priority.
