Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged residents of the Mt Kenya region to remain firmly behind President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election, arguing that re-electing the President would position the region to produce Kenya’s next Head of State.
Speaking during church services and public engagements in Meru County on Sunday, Prof. Kindiki said Mt Kenya residents should not gamble with what he described as a historic opportunity for the region to ascend to the country’s top leadership after President Ruto completes a second term.
Kindiki Says Mt Kenya Has a Unique Opportunity
The Deputy President urged residents to stay focused on securing President Ruto’s re-election before turning attention to future leadership transitions.
“Don’t play ping pong with a chance like this at the Presidency. Just like in football, like in the ongoing World Cup, the best placed person to score receives the ball and he puts the ball in the net and we all celebrate.”
“After President Ruto, I am the best placed person to take over from him. I’m the striker staring at the goal, why should anyone else tell you to recycle the ball to the defenders yet I, as the striker, is standing strong and well placed to score?” DP posed.
Meru Tour and Church Fundraisers
Prof. Kindiki attended a service at the Methodist Church Abothuguchi Synod in Imenti Central Constituency, where he led a resource mobilization drive for the construction of the church headquarters.
Later, he represented President Ruto during a fundraising event for the construction of Methodist Church Laare Synod in Igembe North Constituency before addressing a public rally in Laare Town.
Opposition Offers No Path to Presidency, Says DP
The Deputy President argued that the Mt Kenya region has a stronger chance of producing the country’s next President within the Kenya Kwanza administration than through opposition political formations.
“In the other formation, this region is not in any consideration to take over presidency anytime in the near future but with the one under the stewardship of President Ruto, the fireman is just next after him. Don’t take fruitful chances like this for granted. Do not be deceived, this is the best possible opportunity for us to ascend to the Presidency,” he urged.
Kindiki Defends His Political Experience
Prof. Kindiki also highlighted his political track record, saying his years in public service have prepared him for greater leadership responsibilities.
“Let them continue insulting me, belittling me and saying all sorts of things. I served as senator for 10 years, five years as Majority Leader and three years as Deputy Speaker. I have been Interior CS for two years and now DP. They must respect us,” he said.
DP Lists Development Projects in Meru
The Deputy President said support for President Ruto is driven not only by politics but also by the government’s development record in the region.
Among the key projects he highlighted were the upgrading of Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital to Level 6 status, road projects worth KSh39 billion, electricity expansion projects valued at KSh2.3 billion, construction of modern markets, and the ongoing redesign of the Nithi Bridge.
He maintained that the current administration has invested heavily in Meru and the wider Mt Kenya region.
“There is no other government that has accorded undivided attention to Meru region that President Ruto’s government. I am asking our people not to return this great favour with disrespect. There is no other place for us outside this government. Do not be deceived by those who failed to do anything for us when they were in power,” DP stated.
Call for Patience on Government Projects
As the government continues implementing development projects, Prof. Kindiki appealed for patience from residents, assuring them that all promises made by the administration would eventually be fulfilled.
“The President is being pressured to deliver everything now as if he is the first President of the country. We have had four presidents before him. We will deliver all our promises but let us be patient,” he said.
