The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced supplementary assessment opportunities for diploma teacher trainees who failed previous examinations or missed their July 2026 College Based Assessments (CLBAs).
In an official circular, the council directed principals of teacher training colleges to register eligible candidates for the January/February 2027 supplementary assessments.
Registration will run from November 9 to December 15, 2026, while the assessments are scheduled for January 18 to February 12, 2027.

“The council shall administer the supplementary assessments to the affected teacher trainees from 18th January to 12th February 2027. Individual assessment timetables will be provided upon completion of the registration exercise,” the circular stated.
Trainees Eligible for the Supplementary Assessments
The resit opportunity covers students pursuing the Diploma in Primary Education (DPTE), Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE).
KNEC clarified that candidates who had been referred in previous assessments would qualify under the supplementary examination category.
Trainees who missed their July 2026 Year One and Year Two College Based Assessments will also be allowed to sit their outstanding papers.
This category includes candidates undertaking the DSTE and the Diploma in Teacher Education for Pre-Primary and Primary (DTE PP&P).
Assessment Fees and Registration Requirements
Each trainee will be required to pay KSh7,200 in assessment fees through the eCitizen platform. Candidates referred in practicum will pay an additional KSh5,000.
The trainees will be required to undertake both College Based and Summative Assessments in line with their respective timetables.
KNEC has also directed colleges with fewer than five candidates not to operate as independent assessment centres. Such institutions must arrange registration through approved colleges with larger candidate numbers.
Principals have been instructed to submit signed nominal rolls, relevant medical reports for trainees living with disabilities and proof of payment by December 30, 2026.
Fresh Opportunity Ahead of March 2027 Graduation
The decision to organise supplementary assessments followed an appeal by the Kenya Teachers Colleges Principals Association, which sought another opportunity for trainees who had been referred to meet the requirements for graduation scheduled for March 2027.
The additional assessment window is expected to give eligible trainees an opportunity to clear outstanding requirements before the planned graduation.
Meanwhile, the 2026 DSTE Summative Assessments, which began on October 26, are continuing across various subjects until November 6 through KNEC's online Teacher Education Assessment (TECBA) system.
Trainees are advised to confirm their eligibility and registration arrangements with their respective college administrations.
