Three church leaders accused in a case involving four minors who allegedly suffered burns during an exorcism ritual in Bondo, Siaya County, have been released on bond after pleading not guilty.

Gaudensia Juma, Steven Omondi and Clinton Obudho appeared before Bondo Law Courts Magistrate Christabel Maiyo, where they denied the charges arising from the incident at St. Abraham Israel Assemblies of God Church.

Court Sets Bond Terms for Accused Leaders

In her ruling, Magistrate Maiyo granted Juma a personal bond of KSh100,000 or an alternative cash bail of KSh50,000.

Omondi and Obudho were each released on a personal bond of KSh300,000.

The court imposed conditions intended to protect the integrity of the proceedings and prevent interference with witnesses as the case continues.

Accused Warned Against Witness Interference

The three church leaders were directed not to interfere with prosecution witnesses or the parents of the affected children.

Magistrate Maiyo warned that any breach of the conditions could lead to the cancellation of their bonds.

The conditions will remain important as the prosecution proceeds with the case and the court examines the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Case Follows Burns Incident at Bondo Church

The case stems from an incident at the church in which four minors reportedly sustained burns during a religious exercise allegedly intended to drive out demons.

The incident prompted police investigations, which led to the arrest and prosecution of the three church leaders.

The proceedings are expected to examine how the children sustained their injuries and the alleged involvement of the accused persons.

The matter is scheduled for mention on October 26, 2026, when the court is expected to issue further directions.

The three accused persons remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
