Two suspected drug traffickers have been arrested in Mariakani Township, Kilifi County, after police intercepted a motorcycle transporting a large consignment of cannabis sativa during an anti-narcotics operation.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Mariakani Police Station stopped the motorcycle in the Njoro area of Mariakani Township, leading to the arrest of Ali Mbaji, also known as “Mkadinali” and Rashid Mustafa, alias “Malalo.”

A search conducted on the suspects resulted in the recovery of 84 large rolls of cannabis sativa. Police said Ali Mbaji was found with 59 large rolls, while Rashid Mustafa was in possession of 25 large rolls.

The two suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court after investigations are completed.

Police also impounded the motorcycle used to transport the narcotics, while the recovered cannabis has been secured as evidence.

The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other narcotics-related crimes across the country.

Authorities further appealed to members of the public to continue sharing intelligence that could help law enforcement agencies dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal drug trade.
