Mombasa Governor and ODM deputy party leader Abdulswamad Nassir has dismissed claims of internal divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), insisting the party remains united under its leadership.
The governor addressed the matter on Saturday following concerns surrounding an anticipated visit to Mombasa by members linked to the Linda Mwananchi wing of the party.
Call for Calm and Political Tolerance
Speaking during a bursary distribution event at St. Charles Lwanga Secondary School, Nassir said political activities should be conducted peacefully while warning against narratives suggesting divisions within ODM.
“There is only one ODM under the leadership of our Party Leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga,” he said, dismissing narratives on the existence of rival formations within the party.

The governor emphasized that the party remains unified and that internal disagreements should not be exaggerated or misinterpreted as factional conflict.
Planned Political Visit Should Proceed Peacefully
Addressing the expected visit by leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi faction, Nassir said all political actors are free to engage with residents as long as their activities remain peaceful and lawful.
“In a democracy people are free to organize and present their views to the public. If they wish to come to Mombasa and speak to residents, they are free to do so provided it is done peacefully and within the law,” he said.
He noted that residents of Mombasa are politically aware and capable of evaluating different political viewpoints before forming their own opinions.
“Let them come, have their say and the people will make their choice,” the Governor added.
Call for Respect and Political Maturity
The governor further urged leaders and supporters across the political divide to maintain calm and respect the law.
According to Nassir, Mombasa has historically demonstrated political maturity and tolerance, even during periods of intense political debate.
He called on political actors to maintain that tradition by ensuring engagements with the public remain peaceful and respectful.
