A 35-year-old woman was tragically killed by a crocodile on Tuesday evening while fetching water from River Yala in East Yimbo location, Usigu, in Siaya County.
The victim, identified as Lucy Adhiambo Ouma from Mago Village, was attacked as she carried out routine household chores along the riverbank.
According to Siaya Deputy County Commissioner Betha Onyango, a passerby witnessed the incident and raised the alarm after spotting a crocodile dragging the woman into the water.
Response teams from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), working alongside National Government Administrative officers and local residents, launched a search operation and retrieved the body approximately two hours later.

Onyango urged residents to exercise extreme caution when accessing riverbanks, particularly during the rainy season when water levels and crocodile activity increases.
The body of the deceased was moved to Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Police have since advised residents to minimise non-essential activities at the river, including washing clothes and utensils, to reduce the risk of further attacks.
Meanwhile, local residents, led by former councillor John Obera Ombere, have expressed concern over the increasing number of crocodile attacks in the area and are calling on the government to take urgent measures to address the threat.
