NEPD Party leader Mike Sonko has welcomed growing support from the Maasai community, pledging to champion inclusive leadership, equal opportunities and reforms to address longstanding land injustices.
Sonko spoke on Friday at his Upper Hill officer after receiving a delegation from the Maasai community, which announced its decision to join the NEDP Party.
During the meeting, Sonko announced the nomination of Ruth Suuta Moonka, a Maasai community member who holds a degree in Computer Science, as the party’s deputy leader.
Sonko said Moonka’s appointment would strengthen youth mobilization within NEPD and encourage greater participation by young people in political leadership.
“I am happy to receive a delegation from the Maasai community and that we shall walk and work together. NEPD is a party for all, where we give everyone an opportunity to lead,” Sonko said.
He said the appointment was part of NEPD’s commitment to inclusive leadership, stressing that people from different communities and generations should have an opportunity to participate in decision-making.

“it is time for inclusiveness. We must include everyone in leadership, and I am happy that many from this community are now joining NEPD,” he said.
Sonko also pledged that NEPD would push for reforms aimed at addressing land injustices affecting members of the Maasai community.
He specifically cited allegations of land grabbing as one of the major challenges facing the community and promised that the party would advocate for measures aimed at securing justice for affected residents.
“One of the major challenges you have gone through is land issues, with so many cases of land grabbing. I want to assure you that, no matter how long it takes, justice will prevail,” he said.
The NEPD leader said his party would advocate for reforms designed to promote fairness and ensure Kenyans are treated equally regardless of their community or background.
Sonko further announced plans to intensify NEPD’s grassroots mobilization efforts, saying he would personally visit different communities and hold meetings with residents.
“As you leave here, remember this is the beginning of a long journey with us. We shall be able to include all, and we shall be coming to your places and having more meetings,” he said.
He said NEPD would continue focusing on issues affecting ordinary Kenyans and shape its political agenda around the aspirations of the people.
“As a party, let me reiterate that we shall be with the people and advocate for the issues of the people. Where the people go, that is where NEPD will go,” Sonko said.
The meeting comes as NEPD seeks to expand its grassroots presence and establish a broader national support base ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Sonko is positioning the party as an inclusive political platform focused on wider participation in leadership, youth engagement and issues affecting communities across the country.
