Chiefs across Isiolo County have been directed to ensure all residents aged 18 and above obtain national identity cards and register as voters ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The directive was issued after a meeting that brought together chiefs and assistant chiefs from across the county, with officials highlighting concerns over the number of residents who have yet to acquire identity cards.
Kenya School of Government Director Prof. Nura Mohamed said lack of national identity cards was limiting some residents’ access to government services and preventing them from fully exercising their democratic rights.

Prof. Nura urged all residents aged 18 and above who do not have identity cards to obtain the documents, saying registration would enable them to participate in the country’s development agenda.
Security Concerns Raised in Isiolo
National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Commissioner Josephine Elegai said the meeting also addressed security challenges affecting residents across Isiolo County.
The concerns included cattle rustling, banditry and drug abuse, which continue to affect communities in some parts of the county.
Elegai also called on politicians and their supporters to maintain proper conduct before, during and after the forthcoming elections to promote peace and stability.
Isiolo County Commissioner Chaunga Mwachaunga assured residents that security agencies were prepared to address insecurity inthe county.
Mwachaunga said the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) team would also ensure the registration and issuance of national identity cards resumes across all wards in Isiolo.
The move is expected to help more residents obtain the identification documents required to access government services and register as voters.
