Former Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri has slammed former DP Rigathi Gachagu following the arrest of Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia, questioning the opposition leader’s response to the detention of one of his political allies.
Speaking after Kaguchia’s arrest on Monday, Ngunjiri claimed Gachagua failed to publicly stand with the legislator, contrasting his conduct with that of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whom he said would have personally supported an ally facing a similar situation.
“If Gachagua was Raila (Like he wants to be), he’d have been at the TV station last night and at the DCI this morning with Kaguchia. But he will stay away from Kaguchia for now,” Ngunjiri said.

His remarks came after Kaguchia spent the night inside the Royal Media Services (RMS) premises in Nairobi, claiming he feared being arrested by hooded and heavily armed officers stationed outside the media house.
The Mukurweini MP was arrested on Monday morning after leaving the media station, where he had sought refuge following reports that security officers were waiting to apprehend him.

Video footage from the scene showed detectives taking Kaguchia into custody outside the Royal Media Services offices before escorting him to the DCI headquarters for questioning.
The MP is under investigation over remarks he allegedly made during a political rally in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County, on Saturday, August1. Authorities are investigating whether the comments amounted to incitement.
During the overnight standoff, opposition leaders and lawyers remained at the media house, accusing security agencies of attempting to intimidate the MP.
Lawyers Allege They Were Denied Access
Meanwhile, Kaguchia’s legal team has accused the DCI of denying them access to their client after his arrest.
According to advocates Ndegwa Njiri and Wakili Muriu, they presented themselves at the DCI headquarters shortly after the MP was taken into custody but were allegedly prevented from meeting him.
The lawyers said they are pursuing legal avenues to safeguard their client’s constitutional rights as investigations continue.
The arrest has attracted significant political attention, with leaders from both the government and the opposition weighing in on the circumstances surrounding Kaguchia’s detention and the ongoing investigation.
