Five people have died and one person sustained serious injuries following a tragic road accident involving a trailer and a lorry along the Marsabit-Isiolo Road.
The crash occurred at around 4.00 a.m on Friday at Kargi Junction, about 10 kilometres from Marsabit Town.
According to Marsabit Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo, both vehicles were transporting beans and travelling towards Isiolo when the trailer crashed into the rear of the lorry.
Four occupants died instantly at the scene, while a fifth victim succumbed to injuries after being rushed to Marsabit Teaching and Referral Hospital. The lone survivor is receiving treatment at the same facility.
Police officers responded to the scene shortly after the accident and have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the collision.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to the Marsabit Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where they await identification and post-mortem examinations.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, maintain safe following distances, and observe traffic regulations to help prevent similar tragedies as investigations into the accident continue.
