The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a director of a suspected fraudulent recruitment agency accused of defrauding a job seeker of Sh110,000 through a fake overseas employment offer.
In a statement posted on its official X account, the DCI said detectives from its Serious Crime Unit arrested George Waweru Ngendo, a director of Geovany Agencies Limited, following investigations into an alleged Qatar job recruitment scam.
According to investigators, the suspect allegedly obtained money by false pretences after promising the complainant a lucrative job opportunity in Qatar in exchange for payment.
“Detectives from the DCI Headquarters’ Serious Crime Unit have arrested George Waweru Ngendo over allegations of obtaining money by false pretences through a purported overseas job recruitment scheme,” the agency said.
The DCI said investigations established that the promised employment opportunity was allegedly used to deceive the victim into paying Sh110,000.
Upon concluding investigations, detectives forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved criminal charges against the suspect.
The agency confirmed that Waweru is currently being processed and is expected to be arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The DCI also urged Kenyans seeking employment opportunities abroad to exercise caution before making payments to recruitment agencies.
“Verify the legitimacy of recruitment agencies before making any payments for overseas jobs. Always confirm that an agency is duly registered and licensed by the relevant government authorities before committing your hard-earned money,” the DCI advised.
The investigative agency further encouraged members of the public to report suspected fraud and other criminal activities through its anonymous reporting channels, emphasizing that public vigilance remains critical in combating recruitment scams targeting job seekers.
