Kenya Assures Stable Fuel Supply Amid Middle East Tensions

The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has moved to reassure Kenyans over the stability of fuel supplies amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, a key source of the country’s petroleum imports.

In a press statement dated March 3, 2026, Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi said the government had undertaken a comprehensive review of national petroleum stocks and supply chains. The assessment, he says, confirmed that current reserves are adequate to meet both domestic consumption and regional obligations.

“As at today, the country has sufficient stocks to cover both the country and the region. We have scheduled imports for delivery up to end of April 2026 and, therefore, as it stands, we are assured of security of supply,” he said.

The reassurance comes against a backdrop of heightened global anxiety over possible supply disruptions stemming from instability in the Middle East, a region that plays a central role in global oil production.

The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum said it is closely monitoring developments and has intensified engagement with government-to-government (G-G) suppliers as part of broader contingency planning efforts.

The ministry pledged to keep the country informed of any new developments affecting the petroleum supply situation as the global energy landscape remains uncertain.

The statement is aimed at easing public concerns over potential fuel shortages and price fluctuations as geopolitical tensions continue to unfold across the Middle East.
