The late Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament, Johana Ng’eno, who died in a helicopter crash in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, will be laid to rest on Friday, March 6, his family has announced.
The burial programme was finalized after consultations between political leaders and family members following the February 28 crash in Chepkiep, which claimed several lives.
According to the schedule released by the family, a requiem mass will be held on Wednesday, March 4, at Nairobi Baptist Church. The service is expected to draw leaders, friends, and constituents who will gather in the capital to pay their final respects.
A night vigil will follow on Thursday, March 5, in keeping with Kipsigis cultural traditions observed for the late legislator and others who perished in the crash.
Patrick Ole Ntutu, the Governor of Narok County and Ng’eno’s father-in-law, said the bodies of the MP and Wycliffe Kiprotich Rono will spend the night at his home. He noted that both were married under Kipsigis customary law.
On Friday, March 6, a joint funeral service will be held at Emurua Dikirr Primary School, where thousands of mourners are expected to attend. The bodies will later be transported to their respective homes for separate interments later the same day.
Governor Ntutu further stated that the remaining four victims of the crash will also be brought to Ng’eno’s home in accordance with family wishes and Kipsigis customs, as they were unmarried at the time of their deaths.
