Lusaka Defends Ruto, Says Development Equity Is Fueling Opposition

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has defended President William Ruto against criticism over his leadership, claiming that some communities oppose the President because his administration is seeking to distribute development projects more equitably across the country.

Speaking in Shilukhu, Malava Constituency, during an interdenominational church service and a subsequent fundraiser, Lusaka said the government was moving away from an approach he described as concentrating development in particular regions.

He argued that communities that had benefited from previous development patterns were unhappy with the shift towards distributing projects across the country.

“Those who are fighting Ruto are doing so because they come from regions that have held the presidency and are already highly developed,” Lusaka said.

The governor maintained that the President’s approach was intended to spread development beyond regions that had traditionally received significant investment.

Lusaka also criticised opposition leaders, accusing them of failing to present a clear plan for addressing the challenges facing Kenyans.

He challenged them to move beyond political rhetoric and explain the policies and strategies they would pursue if given the opportunity to govern.

“Let the opposition stop rhetoric and tell the country what their game plan is to fix the problems affecting the nation,” Lusaka said.

His remarks come amid growing political debate over the government’s development priorities and competing positions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Turning to residents of the Mulembe region, Lusaka urged them not to make political decisions based solely on emotions.

He said voters should consider the development projects and investments undertaken by the national government when assessing their political options.

The governor’s remarks formed part of his broader defence of Ruto’s development approach, which he said was focused on spreading projects across different parts of the country.

However, the claims about why particular communities oppose the President represent Lusaka’s political assessment and were not independently established in the supplied report.
