The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a teacher in Bungoma County over allegations of soliciting and receiving bribes from unemployed teachers by claiming she could help them secure jobs through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The suspect, identified as Lilian Nelima Buluma, teaches at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School. She was arrested on October 12, 2026, following preliminary investigations into complaints lodged against her.
According to the EACC, the suspect allegedly demanded KSh100,000 from each of three unemployed teachers, bringing the total amount sought to KSh300,000.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect had allegedly received KSh150,000 through M-Pesa as part of the disputed payments.
The commission said the teacher purportedly claimed to have connections within the TSC and other government offices that could help facilitate the recruitment of the complainants.
The allegations are now the subject of investigations by the anti-graft agency.
Following her arrest, the suspect was processed at the EACC Western Regional Office before being booked at Bungoma Police Station pending the conclusion of investigations.
The commission indicated that she could face charges relating to requesting and receiving a bribe under Section 6, read together with Section 18, of the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016.
The possible charges remain subject to the outcome of investigations and the subsequent decisions of the relevant authorities.
EACC Reaffirms Anti-Corruption Commitment
The EACC reiterated its commitment to combating corruption and promoting integrity in public service.
The case highlights the importance of caution when dealing with individuals who claim they can secure public-sector jobs through personal connections or unofficial payments.
Job seekers are encouraged to rely on official recruitment channels and report suspected bribery to the relevant authorities.
The suspect remains subject to the legal process, and the allegations against her have not been proven in court.
