AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani has identified poor finishing as the team’s biggest weakness in the opening stages of the 2026/27 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season, despite expressing satisfaction with the team’s overall performances.
The 12-time Kenyan league champions have scored only twice in their first three matches, highlighting their struggles in front of goal as the campaign gathers momentum.
Ingwe have failed to score in two of their opening three fixtures, including their latest encounter against Shabana FC. The lack of goals has raised early concerns about the team’s attacking efficiency, with Ambani believing his players need to become more clinical in front of goal.

The coach said Leopards had performed well in several areas of the game, creating opportunities and competing effectively, but had been let down by their inability to convert chances into goals.
Ambani also expressed hope that injured players would return soon, providing the team with additional options as they seek to improve their attacking output.
Leopards’ finishing problems were evident during their goalless draw against Shabana FC.
Samuel Ssenyonjo missed a clear first-half opportunity after heading over the target with only the goalkeeper to beat, denying Ingwe an opportunity to take the lead.
Captain Kaycie Odhiambo later had a chance to secure victory from the penalty spot in the second half but failed to convert.
The missed penalty proved costly, leaving Leopards frustrated after they were unable to find the winning goal.
Despite the disappointment, Ambani has declined to single out Odhiambo for criticism. The coach acknowledged that the missed opportunity affected the momentum of the match but praised his captain’s overall contribution and leadership.
Ambani remains confident that Odhiambo will recover from the setback and convert similar opportunities in future matches.
Leopards will have an immediate opportunity to address their scoring concerns when they travel to Awendo to face Mara Sugar in a midweek FKF Premier League fixture scheduled for Wednesday, October 28.
Ambani will be hoping his players can translate their promising build-up play into goals and deliver a more effective attacking performance.
With the season still in its early stages, improved finishing could prove crucial as Ingwe seek to turn their performances into victories and maintain momentum in the league.
