Three suspects have been arrested as detectives recovered 270kgs of cannabis sativa valued at approximately KSh8 million during a multi-agency operation in Athi River, Machakos County.

The operation was conducted by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), and DCI Kyumbi following intelligence reports on the transportation of illegal drugs.

Detectives Intercept Vehicle Carrying Drugs

According to the DCI, officers intercepted a grey Toyota Voxy, registration number KBU 484U, which was allegedly being used to transport the narcotics.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of nine sacks containing 270kgs of cannabis sativa, with authorities estimating the street value of the haul at KSh8 million.

Three Suspects Arrested

The suspects were identified as Benson Momanyi, Kennedu Mwanyura, and Wilfred Orina.

They were arrested at the scene and are currently being held in police custody pending arraignment in court.

Investigators have detained both the recovered cannabis and the Toyota Voxy as exhibits while further investigations continue.

The seizure marks another significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat narcotics trafficking and dismantle organized criminal networks operating within the country.

Authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the drugs and identify any additional suspects linked to the trafficking operation.
