Freedom Airline Express is set to commence scheduled flights to Lodwar next Friday, increasing competition on the Nairobi-Lodwar air travel route and expanding travel options for passengers traveling to Turkana County.
The airline confirmed its plans during a courtesy call by its officials to Turkana Deputy Governor Dr John Erus on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Freedom Airline Express, which operates domestic flights across northern Kenya as well as international services to neighboring Somalia, is adding Lodwar to its growing network as part of its expansion into underserved markets.
According to tentative flight schedule information, the airline will operate Nairobi-Lodwar flights twice a week on Fridays and Sundays from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, with the schedule subject to further adjustments.
Deputy Governor Erus welcomed the airline’s entry into the Turkana market, saying improved air connectivity would be critical to opening up the county to more business, humanitarian operations and tourism opportunities.
“We welcome Freedom Airline Express to Turkana. As a county government, we are committed to creating an enabling environment for investors who want to do business in Turkana,” Dr Erus said.
The airline’s entry is expected to intensify competition on the busy Nairobi-Lodwar corridor, potentially giving travelers additional options when planning trips between the capital and Turkana.
The new service is also expected to strengthen connectivity to Lodwar, which serves as a key commercial and administrative centre for Turkana County.
For businesses, humanitarian organisations and visitors, increased flight options could improve access to the county while supporting tourism and other economic activities.
Freedom Airline Express’s expansion into Lodwar comes as demand for reliable air connectivity to northern Kenya continues to grow, particularly among travelers seeking faster alternatives to road transport.
