Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has challenged opposition leaders to declare their preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election, saying the opposition lacks unity and a clear political direction.
Speaking in West Uyoma, Rarieda Constituency, during the anniversary commemoration of Mzee Olasi, Wandayi accused opposition leaders of focusing on divisive politics instead of presenting an alternative agenda to Kenyans.
The CS said the broad-based coalition between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) had already settled on President Ruto as its presidential candidate.
“Make the effort to tell us who your presidential candidate actually is. Under our broad-based coalition, our candidate is President Ruto. We challenge them to name theirs so we can meet head-to-head,” Wandayi said.

Wandayi expressed confidence that President Ruto would secure re-election in the first round of voting, predicting a decisive victory in the 2027 polls.
“I am completely certain that this election will be won early in the morning by H.E President William Ruto in Round One with over 65% of the vote,” he said.
The Energy CS argues that the partnership between ODM and UDA has created a strong political alliance capable of delivering both electoral success and development across the country.
He also assured residents of West Uyoma that the region remains a priority in the national government’s development agenda, saying key infrastructure and other development projects would continue under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Wandayi maintained that the broad-based coalition offers political stability and a clear development agenda, while urging opposition leaders to unite behind a single presidential candidate if they intend to challenge President Ruto in the next General Election.
