The Turkana County Department of Roads has successfully completed the inspection of routine maintenance works on the Kangatotha–Naoros–Lokipetot–Eliye–Kangatotha Road in Kangatotha Ward, marking a significant step in improving transport infrastructure and connectivity in the region.
The 56-kilometre road underwent routine maintenance works that included grading and gravelling, significantly improving its condition and making travel safer, smoother and more reliable for residents, traders and visitors.
Speaking after the inspection, Surveyor Janet Bosibori, who supervised the project, said the road serves as a critical transport corridor linking Kangatotha, Naoros, Lokipetot and Eliye villages.
“The improved road will enhance access to Lake Turkana, making movement faster and more convenient for residents, traders and visitors. It will also support economic activities, especially the fishing sector, by easing the transportation of fish to markets,” Bosibori said.

The road is expected to play a key role in boosting trade, improving access to essential services and strengthening livelihoods for communities living along the route.
Lake Turkana remains one of the county’s most important economic resources, with fishing serving as a major source of income for many households. Improved road infrastructure is expected to reduce transport costs, shorten travel times and increase market access for fish traders and other businesses.
The inspection team included Senior Procurement Officer Shakespere Lomoe, Roads Inspector Engineer Zaika Bilal, Roads Engineer Emmanuel Amodoi and Accountant Scout Emmanuel.
The County Department of Roads reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining and upgrading road infrastructure across Turkana to improve connectivity, facilitate economic growth and support sustainable socio-economic development.
