The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has announced a nationwide boycott of court services on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in protest against what it describes as corruption, misconduct, and inefficiencies within the Judiciary.
The lawyers’ body says the action is aimed at highlighting concerns over alleged abuse of office, unethical conduct by some judicial officers, and systemic challenges that have weakened public confidence in the administration of justice.
Concerns Over Judicial Conduct
According to the Society, persistent allegations of corruption and misconduct within the Judiciary have undermined trust in the justice system and affected the delivery of fair and timely justice.
LSK also cited delays in case administration, inefficiencies in court registries, and recurring failures of e-filing platforms as major challenges affecting both advocates and court users.
The Society argues that these issues have negatively impacted advocates’ professional dignity and hampered access to justice.
Lawyers to Stay Away From Court
Speaking in Machakos after a meeting with leaders of the South East and Machakos chapters, LSK President Charles Kanjama said members would not participate in court hearings and applications during the one-day boycott.
“The boycott is intended to protest the challenges facing the Judiciary, including allegations of corruption, misconduct, and administrative inefficiencies that continue to affect the legal profession and justice delivery,” Kanjama said.
Filing of Cases to Continue
Kanjama clarified that advocates will continue filing cases despite the boycott.
However, mentions and applications involving interim orders will only proceed for limited purposes, including securing new hearing dates or extending existing interim orders where necessary.
The move is expected to affect court operations across the country as lawyers withdraw their participation from most court proceedings for the day.
Call for Reforms in the Judiciary
The boycott comes amid growing calls for reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and efficiency within the Judiciary.
LSK maintains that addressing the concerns raised by advocates is essential to restoring public trust and ensuring the effective administration of justice.
The Society has urged judicial leadership to take decisive action to address the issues highlighted and improve service delivery within the courts.
