Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has intensified grassroots mobilization efforts for President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying the President’s development record has strengthened support across Western Kenya.
Speaking during a boda boda empowerment forum at Muji in Webuye East Constituency, Lusaka, who serves as President Ruto’s Western Region Re-election Coordinator, said the Kenya Kwanza administration’s investments in infrastructure, transport, healthcare, and economic development have transformed Bungoma County and positioned it among the biggest beneficiaries of government projects.
Matulo Airstrip Expansion
The governor identified the ongoing expansion of Matulo Airstrip in Webuye as one of the county’s flagship projects, saying it will unlock new economic opportunities for residents.
According to Lusaka, the contractor is expected to begin constructing a standard passenger terminal while extending the runway to accommodate commercial flights.

“The expansion of Matulo Airstrip is a game changer for Bungoma. Commercial flights will open up our county to investors, create jobs, stimulate trade and firmly position Bungoma as an emerging economic hub,” Lusaka said.
Webuye Modern Market to Boost Trade
Lusaka also praised the government’s investment in modern market infrastructure, noting that the nearly complete Webuye Modern Market will provide traders with improved business facilities and stimulate economic activity.
He said the project is expected to increase local revenue collection while creating a conducive environment for small-scale traders and entrepreneurs.
Major Upgrade for Sports Infrastructure
The governor highlighted the ongoing renovation of Masinde Muliro Kanduyi Stadium, saying the successful hosting of the recent Western Regional Secondary Schools Games demonstrated the value of collaboration between national and county governments.
He noted that improved sports infrastructure would help nurture talent while attracting sporting events and investment to the county.
Highway and SGR Projects
Lusaka further pointed to major transport projects being implemented under President Ruto’s administration, including the dualling of the Rironi-Mau Summit-Malaba highway, and the planned extension of the SGR from Naivasha to Malaba through Myanga in Bumula Constituency.
According to the governor, these projects will reduce transport costs, improve connectivity, and create new investment opportunities across Western Kenya.
Sinoko Hospital
On healthcare, Lusaka announced that KSh100 million has been allocated for the construction of Sinoko Hospital in Webuye East Constituency.
He described the project as a major step toward improving access to quality healthcare services for thousands of residents in the area.
Lusaka Dismisses Opposition’s Chances in 2027
Turning to politics, the governor expressed confidence that President Ruto would secure a second term in office, arguing that divisions within the opposition have weakened its ability to mount a serious challenge.
“The opposition is already grappling with internal cracks and lacks a united agenda. President Ruto’s scorecard speaks for itself, and Kenyans will judge him based on development, not political rhetoric. Do not be mislead by empty promises,” he told the gathering.
Kenya Kwanza Leaders Rally Support
The empowerment forum was hosted by Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi and attracted several senior Kenya Kwanza leaders, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, President Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, Members of Parliament, and other regional leaders.
The leaders used the event to champion economic empowerment for boda boda operators, contribute funds to strengthen their savings groups, and rally support for President Ruto’s re-election campaign.
They maintained that continued implementation of the Kenya Kwanza development agenda remains crucial to accelerating economic growth and transformation in Bungoma County and the wider Western Kenya region.
