The Turkana County Government has strengthened its preparedness for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) after receiving health products and technologies worth KSh2.3 million, with support from the International Rescue Committee (IRC).
The supplies, received in Lodwar on October 13, 2026, will support infection prevention and control across sub-county health facilities as the county continues efforts to protect healthcare workers and communities from potential Ebola threats.
Supplies to Be Distributed Across Health Facilities
Speaking during the handover, Dr Moru David, Director of Health Products and Technologies, said the supplies would be distributed to health facilities across the county's sub-counties to improve access to essential infection prevention and control commodities.
“These supplies will be distributed across all sub-county health facilities,” he said.
The distribution is expected to strengthen facility-level preparedness by ensuring healthcare workers have access to essential protective and sanitation materials.
County Highlights Collaboration With Health Partners
Daniel Esimit, Director of Preventive and Promotive Health, acknowledged the ongoing collaboration between the county government, the International Rescue Committee, the National Government and other partners in strengthening Ebola prevention measures.
He said the donation builds on preparedness interventions already being implemented in the county, including healthcare worker capacity development, risk communication and community engagement.
“We have been sharpening our readiness for some time now. These supplies are an additional measure to staff capacity development, risk communication and community engagement,” Esimit said.
What the KSh2.3 Million Consignment Contains
The consignment includes a range of supplies intended to strengthen hygiene, protective measures and infection control in health facilities.
The items include examination gloves and surgical masks, hand sanitisers and liquid soap, disposable aprons and protective equipment, safety boxes and waste bins, handwashing facilities and paper towels, chlorine and sprayers, and health education materials.
These supplied will support healthcare workers in maintaining infection prevention and control measures while improving preparedness at facility level.
Turkana Strengthens Ebola Prevention Efforts
The donation reflects ongoing collaboration between Turkana County and its health partners to strengthen the health system's readiness to prevent and respond to potential Ebola threats.
County officials say the supplies complement existing efforts focused on staff training, public awareness and community engagement.
