NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya's national men's rugby sevens team, Shujaa, defeated Kenya Morans 24–5 in an all-Kenyan final on Sunday to claim their fifth consecutive Safari Sevens title at Nyayo National Stadium.
The victory extended Shujaa's winning run in the annual tournament, with the national team once again overcoming their second-string counterparts to retain the championship.
The latest triumph adds to Shujaa's previous title-winning campaigns in 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025, further strengthening their record in the competition.
Shujaa secured the championship with a disciplined performance, combining effective attacking play with organised defending to win by 19 points.
The Morans fought throughout the final but struggled to match the experience and quality of their more established opponents.
The all-Kenyan showdown also highlighted the depth of the country's rugby sevens programme and the competition for places in the national team.
Shujaa Cruise Past French Renegades
Shujaa booked their place in the final with a commanding 36–0 victory over French Renegades in the semi-finals.
They had earlier demonstrated their attacking strength with a 54–5 win over Wonder Sevens in the quarter-finals.
The Morans also produced impressive performances on their way to the final, defeating Shogun 31–10 in the semi-finals before overcoming SportPesa Fast Forward 7s 38–15 in the quarter-finals.
Both teams' progress through the knockout stages underlined the competitive nature of the tournament.
Although the Morans fell short in the final, their run to the championship match offered emerging players valuable experience against established national-team players.
Their performance also demonstrated the depth of talent available in Kenya's rugby sevens setup.
For Shujaa, the fifth consecutive Safari Sevens crown provides another milestone as the team continues its involvement in international rugby sevens competition.
Safari Sevens Celebrates Kenyan Rugby
The 28th edition of the Safari Sevens brought together local and international teams, giving players a platform to showcase their abilities and compete against a range of opponents.
The tournament also gave Kenyan supporters an opportunity to celebrate the country's rugby sevens tradition.
Shujaa's victory over the Morans capped the competition with a domestic final that showcased both the established national team and the next group of players seeking to make their mark.
