Pan African Voice’s 2026 ranking assessed companies using five criteria: scale, market position, strategic importance, momentum and continental reach.
KenGen’s inclusion reflects the importance of renewable electricity producers in an African energy sector that encompasses oil and gas companies, utilities and off-grid energy providers.
Welcoming the recognition, KenGen Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Eng. Peter Njenga said the company’s experience demonstrated the economic benefits of sustained investment in clean energy.
“ This recognition reflects the dedication of our people, the confidence of our stakeholders and the strength of our long-term investment in renewable energy,” Njenga said.
He added that the company’s geothermal development experience demonstrated how clean energy could strengthen energy security, support industry and deliver long-term economic and environmental benefits.
Under its G2G 2034 corporate strategy, KenGen plans to expand renewable generation, modernise existing assets and pursue technologies and partnerships intended to create greater value for Kenya and the wider African continent.
Beyond electricity generation in Kenya, KenGen is seeking to use its geothermal expertise and energy development services to support other African countries interested in developing their own resources and strengthening domestic technical capacity.
The company’s experience in geothermal development could provide technical expertise for countries seeking to diversify their energy sources and increase access to reliable electricity.
In Kenya, the Olkaria Green Energy Park is among the initiatives aimed at linking renewable energy resources with industrial investment.
The initiative seeks to position the country’s clean electricity resources as an advantage for businesses while supporting investment and economic growth.
KenGen’s focus on renewable energy development and investment opportunities will also feature at its third Sustainable Energy Conference, SEC 2026, scheduled for November 24–27, 2026, at the Olkaria Geothermal Spa.
The conference is expected to attract more than 1,500 participants from Africa and other parts of the world, including investors, policymakers and leaders working in renewable energy and sustainability.
Participants are expected to showcase technologies, explore investment opportunities and establish partnerships aimed at turning clean energy proposals into commercially viable projects.
The event will provide a platform for discussions on renewable energy development, financing and collaboration as African countries pursue their energy and sustainability ambitions.
