Jubilee Appoints Lucy Kashu, Madina Mahat to Interim Party Roles

Jubilee Party officials meet during party activities ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Jubilee Party has appointed interim officials and established a committee to explore cooperation with other opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Jubilee Party has appointed Lucy Naisiae Kashu as interim chairperson of its Party Women’s Caucus and Madina Yunis Mahat as interim Deputy National Organising Secretary to fill vacant positions within the party.

In a statement dated Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the party said its National Executive Committee (NEC) had approved the appointments made by party leader Fred Matiang’i.

The party also announced the formation of a three-member committee to engage opposition parties and explore possible coalitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Inter-Party Coalition Building Committee will be chaired by former Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura, with Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta and Janet Ong’era serving as members.

The committee has been tasked with engaging like-minded political parties and exploring ways to strengthen cooperation among opposition groups ahead of the next general election.

“Recognising the Jubilee Party's membership in the Azimio la Umoja and the importance of unity among opposition parties, the NEC appointed an Inter-Party Coalition Building Committee to spearhead engagements with other like-minded parties,” the party said.

One of the committee’s responsibilities will be to review the draft Deed of Agreement for the Ukombozi Alliance (TUA) and propose amendments where necessary.

It will also hold discussions with other opposition parties to explore potential partnerships and develop proposals for greater political cooperation ahead of the 2027 polls.

Committee to Submit Recommendations to NEC

According to the party, the committee will submit its recommendations to the National Executive Committee after completing its consultations.

The NEC will then consider the proposals and provide further direction on possible coalition arrangements.

Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta said the party remained committed to dialogue and cooperation among opposition groups.

“The National Executive Committee reaffirmed the Party's commitment to constructive dialogue, cooperation and the pursuit of a common agenda for the transformation of our country,” Ole Kenta said.

The party also reiterated its membership in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance, highlighting the importance it places on opposition unity ahead of the next general election.

Changes Follow Uhuru Kenyatta’s Leadership Handover

The latest developments come weeks after former President Uhuru Kenyatta handed over Jubilee Party leadership to Matiang’i, setting the stage for changes within the party.

According to the supplied report, the transition followed legal developments concerning restrictions on retired presidents holding formal positions in political parties.

Kenyatta urged Jubilee members to support Matiang’i as the party’s flag bearer in the next election.

The new appointments and coalition-building committee mark further organisational steps by Jubilee as political parties prepare for the 2027 General Election. Any coalition arrangements arising from the committee’s work will depend on the outcome of its consultations and the party’s subsequent decisions.
