Popular Kenyan singer Nikita Kering’ has won the Best Female East Africa award at the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA), marking her fifth victory at the continental music awards event.
Kering’ began singing at the age of three, initially entertaining family members before performing at Kindergarten functions.
Her mother recognized her talent early and encouraged her to sing at school and join church choirs to help build her confidence and develop her musical abilities.
At the age of nine, Kering’ got an opportunity to curtain-raise for Emmy Kosgei during her album launch. The performance later earned the young singer an interview on Citizen TV.
At 16, she took another major step in her musical journey by writing her first single, Happy With You.
Kering’ rose to prominence in 2019 after being selected for Mr Eazi’s emPawa 100 talent masterclass. The same year marked her transition into a recognized name in East African music.
Her single Tragedy received significant airplay and helped cement her place in the regional music scene. The song also contributed to her making history as the youngest artist to win an AFRIMMA award.
Over the years, Kering’ has released several songs, including Ex, On Yah, Dilly Darling and Better Than Ever.
She has also collaborated with several artists on tracks including Kama Hauna featuring Ndovu Kuu and Scar Mkadinali, Mimi na Wewe with Bridget Blue, Let You Down featuring Kemena, and Pendana Nawe featuring DJ Tarico, Vic West, Trill Xoe, Max Kering and Omphile Mosome.
Beyond music, Kering’ has expanded her profile through partnerships with major beauty and entertainment brands.
She has worked with Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin and has also been featured in Netflix’s African-region promotional campaign for a hit series.
Her latest AFRIMMA recognition adds another milestone to a career that began in childhood and has seen her grow into one of Kenya’s recognized young music talents.
The Best Female East Africa award further highlights Kering’s continued presence on the continental music scene as she builds on her achievements in both music and entertainment.
