Turkana University College has officially welcomed its 2026/2027 cohort during a matriculation ceremony held at the institution’s Main Campus.
The ceremony, presided over by Principal Prof. George Chemining’wa, marked the culmination of a week of activities that began with student reporting on Monday, August 31, 2026, followed by orientation on Wednesday.
Addressing the new students, Prof. Chemining’wa challenged them to pursue academic excellence, uphold discipline and embrace innovation as they begin their university journey.
He reaffirmed the College’s vision of becoming a globally esteemed university in teaching, research and outreach, while urging students to prioritise their well-being and avoid drug and substance abuse.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity to celebrate the institution’s success beyond the classroom, following a strong performance at the 98th Kenya National Music Festival.
Students from Turkana University College, who recently participated in the national festival, secured three trophies across various competitive categories.
The trophies were presented to Prof. Chemining’wa during the ceremony, attracting applause from those in attendance and highlighting the students’ achievements in music and the performing arts.
Students who participated in the festival were also awarded certificates of participation in recognition of their talent, commitment and contribution to the College’s success.
The matriculation ceremony formally ushers in the 2026/2027 academic cohort as the students begin their studies at Turkana University College.
The institution congratulated the new cohort and wished the students success throughout their academic journey.
