Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has challenged opposition leaders to respect the independence of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and refrain from interfering with its operations.
Murkomen accused some opposition politicians of attempting to influence the electoral body while simultaneously positioning themselves as political candidates and arbiters of the electoral process.
“You see someone talking about the IEBC. He wants to be the contractor, candidate, and referee at the same time,” the CS said.
The CS urged opposition leaders to focus on presenting clear policies and manifestos ahead of the 2027 General Election, arguing that political competition should be based on ideas and development agendas.
“I’m surprised to see young people of my age campaigning and saying that a manifesto is not important,” he said.
Murkomen further criticized the current opposition, claiming it lacked clear ideas, policies and a coherent agenda to convince voters.
“There has never been an opposition that is as poor in ideas and policies as what we have right now,” he said.
The CS also defended President Ruto’s record in government, maintaining that the administration had delivered a development track record that he described as unmatched in Kenya’s history.
“They want to challenge President Ruto, whose track record is second to none,” he said.

Kindiki echoed Murkomen’s call for issue-based political competition, challenging leaders seeking to unseat President Ruto to present Kenyans with clear manifestos outlining their plans for the country.
“I want to ask those who want to compete with President Ruto to come up with a manifesto and tell the people of Kenya about their vision,” he said.
The Deputy President maintained that political leaders should compete on the basis of ideas, policies and development records rather than rhetoric.
The event was attended by Governors Jonathan Bii, Patrick Ole Ntutu and Stephen Sang; Principal Secretaries Belio Kipsang and Julius Bitok; Senators Jackson Mandago and Vincent Chemitei; MPs Oscar Sudi, Reuben Kiborek, William Kamket and Joseph Wainaina; COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli; and several Members of County Assembly, among other leaders.
