The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved corruption-related charges against four Turkana County Government officials and a private company over the alleged unlawful acquisition of public funds amounting to KSh62 million.
The suspects are Peter Long’ole Apua, Betty Emathe Asimit, Christopher Imuron Apua, Long’ole Apua Moses and Apuco Holding Group Limited.
They are expected to appear in court to face charges including conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property, money laundering and using proceeds of crime.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the suspects are accused of unlawfully acquiring public property valued at KSh62,047,757.30.
The amount was allegedly paid to Apuco Holding Group Limited through tenders that were awarded under circumstances involving a conflict of interest.

The prosecution approval follows investigations into the alleged transactions involving the Turkana County Government and the private company.
The suspects are expected to take plea before a court, where they will have an opportunity to respond to the allegations against them.
The ODPP has reiterated its commitment to combating corruption and other forms of crime, protecting public resources and ensuring that individuals suspected of wrongdoing are subjected to due process before the courts.
The charges remain allegations until proven in court.
