The National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) has appointed Dr. James Mworia Mwirigi as its founding Chief Executive Officer, effective September 7, 2026.
According to the NIF Board of Directors, Mworia will lead the establishment of the fund as a credible national investment institution and oversee the development of infrastructure enterprises required to deliver its mandate.
In his new role, Mworia is expected to establish NIF’s organizational structure, build its workforce, systems and institutional culture, and operationalise its governance, investment and risk management frameworks.
He will also be responsible for developing a credible and investable project pipeline, mobilizing co-investment capital, and advancing priority infrastructure projects through rigorous appraisal, structuring and execution.
Mworia previously served as Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Centum Investment Company PLC, a position he held for 17 years.
Earlier this year, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi appointed Mworia to the National Infrastructure Fund Board for a three-year term effective July 8, 2026.
The NIF Board, under the stewardship of President William Ruto, is expected to play a key role in aligning financial resources with the government’s national development priorities.
Mworia’s appointment comes as the fund begins building the institutional structures and investment mechanisms needed to finance and deliver major infrastructure projects in line with its mandate.
