Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has maintained a notably low public profile in recent weeks, with his reduced public appearances attracting attention as political activity intensifies across the county.
Lomorukai was last publicly seen on August 17, 2026, during an official visit by the Principal Secretary for Defence to the Lodwar Stadium Project at Ekaales Centre.
Before that, the governor attended a public engagement in Loturerei on July 25, making his public appearances increasingly limited over the past month.
His absence has also been noted at several high-profile engagements involving issues of interest to Turkana County.
On August 24 and 25, Lomorukai did not attend the Kenya–South Sudan bilateral talks held in Nairobi, which focused on bilateral cooperation and cross-border trade among other issues. It remains unclear whether the governor was expected to attend the talks personally or whether the county government designated a representative.
On August 28, the governor also missed a handover involving former military officials, an event where he had earlier indicated that he would be present and which was facilitated by the Department of Defence. Deputy Governor Dr John Erus represented the Turkana County Government at the event.
The governor’s reduced public visibility comes at a politically significant time, with opposition leaders and political groups increasing their activities across Turkana in recent days. The limited public presence of some of his political allies has also attracted attention.
However, there has been no official indication that Lomorukai has stopped carrying out his responsibilities as governor, and it remains unclear whether he has been engaged in official duties away from public events or has been unavailable for other reasons.
The situation has nevertheless generated discussion within political circles, with questions being raised about the governor’s public visibility at a time when political activity across Turkana County is gaining momentum.
For now, the circumstances surrounding Lomorukai’s reduced public appearances remain unclear, with no formal explanation having been issued regarding his recent absence from several public engagements.
