Liverpool are reportedly leading Premier League rivals Chelsea in the race to sign Eduardo Camavinga from Real Madrid this summer, according to reports.
Camavinga joined Real Madrid in 2021 as one of Europe’s most highly rated young midfielders and quickly became an important figure under former manager Carlo Ancelotti.
However, the 23-year-old has struggled for consistent game time this season. Under Xabi Alonso, Camavinga made just five La Liga starts before the Supercopa de Espana.
Following Alonso’s departure, interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa restored the French international to the lineup, where he has featured more regularly. Despite this resurgence, Real Madrid are reportedly open to offers, with both Liverpool and Chelsea willing to pay around €50 million.
Liverpool Prioritising Midfield Reinforcements
Liverpool are expected to strengthen their midfield this summer as manager Arne Slot looks to add depth.
The Reds have relied heavily on Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones throughout the campaign. Jones, in particular, faces an uncertain future with just over a year remaining on his current contract and previous links to a potential exit.
Chelsea Also in the Hunt
Chelsea are also targeting midfield reinforcements amid uncertainty surrounding Enzo Fernandez’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have additionally been linked with Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace.
Despite their interest, Chelsea are believed to be trailing Liverpool in the pursuit of Camavinga, with the Merseyside club reportedly having held multiple meetings with the player’s representatives.
Disappointing Weekend for Both Clubs
