Motorists can now track the status of their driving licence and number plate applications through multiple digital and mobile platforms, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced.
In a statement, the Authority outlined simple methods that allow applicants to confirm whether their documents are ready for collection, still under processing, or require further action.
The move comes amid growing concerns from Kenyans over delays in the issuance of smart driving licences and digital number plates in recent months.
NTSA said applicants can avoid unnecessary visits to service centres by using real-time tracking tools available online and via mobile devices.
eCitizen Portal
According to NTSA, the quickest way to check application status is through the eCitizen platform.
After logging in, users can access the NTSA dashboard, navigate to “Online Services,” and select “Other Services.” From there, applicants can click on the “Uncollected Smart Driving Licences and Number Plates” option.
Users are then required to choose whether they are checking a driving licence or number plate and click the “Search” button. A national ID number is used for licence tracking, while a vehicle registration number is required for number plates.
The portal displays the status of the application, including whether the licence is active, expired, suspended, or still being processed, and provides updates on number plate production and collection points.
NTSA Mobile App
Motorists can also monitor their applications through the NTSA Mobile App, available on Android and iOS devices.
Once logged in, users can navigate to the “My Licence” or vehicle services section to view updates, offering a convenient option for those who prefer mobile access.
SMS Option
Applicants without internet access can check their status via SMS by sending their national ID number to 22846.
NTSA said users will receive feedback indicating whether their documents are ready or still beig processed. Alternatively, applicants can contact the Authority through its official phone line.
Physical Visits
For in-person assistance, motorists can visit NTSA service centres countrywide. Applicants are advised to carry identification documents for verification.
The Authority’s headquarters is located at Upper Hill Chambers along Second Ngong Avenue in Nairobi and operates during official working hours from Monday to Friday.
NTSA maintained that the new tracking options are aimed at improving service delivery and reducing congestion at service centres.
