Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has openly connected recent police command reshuffles to the controversial Witima ACK Church attack in Nyeri.
In a recent media engagement, Gachagua claimed that all officers involved in the February 2025 incident, including former Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda, have been administratively transferred rather than facing immediate criminal charges.
“In the Witima case, we asked for the officers not to be charged but be transfered,” Gachagua stated, clarifying the decision-making behind the redeployments.
This comes amidst an official police reshuffle, with authorities citing standard operational enhancements for moves like Seda’s transfer to the Western region.
Gachagua, however, directly linked Seda’s transfer, along with those of 12 other officers, to their alleged roles in facilitating the church attack.

“Regional commander Seda, who gave guns and vehicles, has been transferred to Mombasa. The other 12 officers have been given transfers here and there.”
The alleged excessive force used during a church service at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri, has been a contentious political issue.
Opposition leaders had previously vowed to pursue private legal action against the implicated officers and two MPs. Gachagua’s latest remarks suggest that administrative transfers have been the chosen course of action for now, instead of immediate prosecutions.
Gachagua assured that further action is pending despite the current administrative approach. He issued a stern warning to current police commanders and reiterated his commitment to justice.
“All those people will be charged once we take power in 2027.” he declared, adding, “We are telling all OCSs and OCPDs who allow attacks on innocent Kenyans that we will hold them to account when we take power.”
