The National Youth Service (NYS) has officially launched the NYS recruitment 2026 exercise across all sub-counties in Kenya, opening up hundreds of opportunities for young people seeking skills training and employment.

In a notice issued on Monday, March 16, the agency confirmed that the nationwide recruitment exercise will run from March 16-21 March, 2026, with eligible youths encouraged to present themselves at designated recruitment centers in their respective sub-counties.

The exercise is part of the government’s broader efforts to empower young Kenyans through structured training, discipline, and participation in national development programmes.

NYS recruitment 2026 kicks off nationwide

According to the National Youth Service, the recruitment exercise has officially begun across the country as previously announced.

“The National Youth Service (NYS) nationwide recruitment exercise has officially kicked off today across all sub-counties as earlier advertised. The exercise will run from 16th to 21st March 2026,” the statement read.

The agency urged young Kenyans who meet the eligibility requirements to turn up in large numbers and take advantage of the opportunity.

“Eligible young Kenyans are encouraged to report to their respective sub-county recruitment centres and take advantage of this opportunity to serve the nation while gaining valuable skills, discipline, and training,” the statement added.

NYS programme focuses on youth empowerment

The National Youth Service is a government institution tasked with empowering youth through paramilitary training, national service programmes, and vocational education.

Through its training programmes, recruits gain practical technical skills in several sectors, including:

  • Construction
  • Agriculture
  • Mechanical and automotive works
  • Community development

These skills are intended to prepare young people for employment opportunities while also enabling them to contribute to national development.

NYS graduates are frequently deployed to support public infrastructure projects, environmental conservation programmes, disaster response operations, and community development initiatives across the country.

Over 700 vacancies available in NYS recruitment

Earlier this month, the National Youth Service announced a recruitment drive targeting both cadet officers and private officers, with more than 700 vacancies available.

According to the notice issued on March 3, the positions include:

  • 250 Cadet Officer positions
  • 500 Private posts

The recruitment exercise is expected to benefit thousands of unemployed youth across Kenya by providing them with professional training and career opportunities.

Completed application forms can be submitted via email or by post to the NYS Commandant General at the NYS Headquarters in Nairobi.

The agency has set March 18, 2026, as the deadline for submission of applications.
