National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on political leaders across the country to lower the political temperatures and embrace respectful dialogue, warning that escalating tensions could place the country on a dangerous path.
Speaking during a church service and fundraising event at Kanyadhiang SDA Church in Homa Bay County, Wetang’ula cautioned against the growing trend of name-calling and hostile political rhetoric among leaders.
According to Wetang’ula, divisive politics and abusive language risk undermining national unity and could create unnecessary tension within the country.
Leaders Urged to Embrace Respectful Dialogue
The National Assembly Speaker said that leaders must set a positive example by engaging in civil and constructive political discussions.
He criticized the increasing use of insulting language in political debates, saying it erodes public confidence in leadership and distracts from addressing the real issues affecting citizens.

“Leaders must demonstrate maturity in how they address one another and the public,” he said, noting that political disagreements should not lead to hostility or personal attacks.
Promoting Peace and National Cohesion
Wetang’ula also stressed that leaders have a responsibility to safeguard peace and promote unity across the country.
He said Kenya’s development and stability depend on cooperation among leaders and citizens alike. According to him, divisive political narratives could undermine progress and slow down national development.
The Speaker called for a renewed commitment to peace, urging political actors to focus on initiatives that bring communities together rather than deepen divisions.
Acknowledging Government Development Efforts
During the event, Wetang’ula also highlighted the progress being made under the administration of William Ruto.
He noted that the government has introduced several programs aimed at improving livelihoods, strengthening the economy, and enhancing the well-being of Kenyans.
Wetang’ula encouraged leaders to support policies that promote economic growth and social stability, saying national unity remains essential for the country to achieve its long-term development goals.
Focus on Unity for National Progress
The Speaker concluded by urging political leaders to place the country’s interests above partisan politics.
He said Kenya’s future depends on responsible leadership that promotes dialogue, unity, and cooperation.
According to Wetang’ula, when leaders work together and maintain respectful discourse, the country is better positioned to achieve lasting peace, stability, and prosperity.
