The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has appointed Mohamed Abdul M’maka as the new Commissioner for the Investigations and Enforcement Department, effective March 11, 2026.
In a statement issued on March 12, the tax authority said the appointment was approved by the KRA Board following a competitive recruitment process aimed at strengthening the agency’s capacity to combat tax evasion, financial crimes and illicit trade.
Over Two Decades of Intelligence Experience
According to KRA, M’maka brings more than 21 years of experience in intelligence, security and investigations.
Before his appointment, he served as Chief Manager for Intelligence Collection at the authority, a position he has held since August 2025. During his tenure, he played a key role in coordinating intelligence gathering and supporting enforcement operations aimed at protecting government revenue.

M’maka has also held several senior intelligence positions within the tax authority, including Chief Manager for Intelligence Coordination and Operations and Chief Manager for Intelligence Exchange.
Extensive Security Background
Prior to joining the Kenya Revenue Authority, M’maka worked in several high-level security and intelligence roles across key institutions.
He previously served as Chief Security Officer at Kenya Power and Lighting Company and as Manager for Security Protection and Integrity at Kenya Airways.
His earlier career also includes service as a Senior Intelligence Officer and Investigator at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Additionally, M’maka held positions as a Field Intelligence Manager and Troop Commander in the Kenya Defence Forces, where he gained significant operational and investigative experience.
Academic and Professional Credentials
M’maka holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategy from the National Defence University-Kenya, a Master of Arts in Security Management from Egerton University and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from Kenyatta University.
He is also a Certified Security Manager and a member of the International Security Management Institute and the Association of Corporate and Industrial Security Management Professionals.
Role at KRA
In his new position, M’maka will lead the authority’s efforts to detect, investigate and deter tax fraud, smuggling and other forms of revenue leakage while strengthening enforcement mechanisms to safeguard government revenue.
