Siaya Governor James Orengo speaking about Linda Mwananchi party registration

Orengo Claims State Role in Linda Mwananchi Party Registration

Siaya Governor, James Orengo has claimed that the registration of the Linda Mwananchi Party could be a move orchestrated by the state to block certain political actors from using the name.

Orengo raised concerns that the sudden registration of the party may have been intended to prevent leaders associated with the opposition from adopting the Linda Mwananchi identity as part of their political activities.

Despite the controvevrsy, Orengo firmly dismissed speculation that he and like-minded leaders are planning to form a new political party.

Orengo Insists Leaders Will Remain in ODM

Speaking on the issue, Orengo stated that he remains loyal to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and has no plans to establish or join another political outfit.

According to the governor, reports suggesting that some leaders are planning to launch a new political party under the LInda Mwananchi banner are misleading.

“We are not forming another party. We remain firmly in ODM,” He said.

The veteran politician noted that ODM continues to be their political home and that any attempts to suggest otherwise are unfounded.

Concerns Over Timing of Party Registration

Orengo questioned the timing of the registration of the Linda Mwananchi Party, arguing that it appeared to have been done strategically to block potential use of the name by other political actors, suggesting that such actions could be part of a broader political strategy aimed at limiting political organization or messaging among leaders who might have been considering using the name.

Orengo did not however, provide specific evidence linking the registration to any state institutions but maintained that the circumstances surrounding the move raise legitimate questions.

Political Tensions Ahead of Elections

The remarks come at a time when political discussions are intensifying across the country as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.

Political analysts say the emergence of new political parties and alliances often sparks competition over names, slogans, and political identities.

In Kenya’s political landscape, party branding plays a major role in mobilizing supporters and communicating political messages to voters.

Orengo maintained that despite the controversy surrounding the Linda Mwananchi name, his focus remains on strengthening ODM and advancing its political agenda.

Focus on Strengthening ODM

The Siaya governor reiterated that his priority is to support the growth and stability of the Orange Democratic Movement rather than creating alternative political platforms.

He urged party members and supporters to remain united and avoid being distracted by speculation about new political formations.

Orengo’s statement seeks to reassure ODM supporters that there are no plans for a split within the party or the creation of rival political outfits.

As political debates continue, the issue of the Linda Mwananchi Party registration is likely to remain part of the broader discussion about political organization and party identity in Kenya.
