The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has unveiled new speed limits for key roads across Nairobi and its environs, introducing instant fines for violations.
Motorists are reminded that failure to comply may attract a fine of up to Ksh. 10,000.
The new measures are part of NTSA’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and reduce accidents on major highways.
Key Speed Limits to Observe
Below are the updated speed limits for major roads under the instant fines system:
| Road Section | Speed Limit |

| Cabanas / JKIA → Mombasa Rd | 80 km/h |
| Waiyaki Way → Kangemi / Uthiru | 60–80 km/h |
Motorists are urged to adhere strictly to these limits, as NTSA has adopted instant fines collection through automated monitoring systems on key routes.
NTSA’s Goal
The authority says these measures are designed to reduce road accidents, improve traffic flow, and to promote responsible driving behavior.
With thousands of drivers commuting daily on Nairobi’s highways, the introduction of instant fines is expected to enforce compliance more effectively than manual enforcement.
Penalties for Violations
Violating the new speed limits could attract fines up to Ksh 10,000, possible additional penalties depending on severity, and a record of violation under NTSA’s driver safety monitoring system.
NTSA has warned that both private motorists and commercial drivers will be monitored, and no exceptions will be made.
