Ruto Urges Kenyan Youth Not to Be Used by Politicians

President William Ruto has urged Kenyan youth to resist being used by politicians pursuing personal interests and instead focus on opportunities that can improve their lives.

Speaking on Sunday in Bondo, Siaya County during the launch of a digital hub, the president said the long-standing culture of politicians manipulating young people for political battles must come to an end through empowerment and economic opportunities.

“For a very long time the young people of our nation have been used as political tools, goons, bloggers and supporters for politicians. They deserve better. Do not accept anything less,” said President Ruto.

The Head of State encouraged young people to take advantage of government initiatives designed to improve their economic prospects instead of engaging in political conflicts for leaders.

“Do not allow any politician to use your brains and energy to fight and secure votes. Use the opportunities given to you to advance yourselves so that you depend on yourselves,” he added.

According to the president, his administration has introduced several programs aimed at creating jobs and improving financial stability for the youth. These include the government’s affordable housing program, the establishment of ICT hubs across the country, and labour export opportunities.

President Ruto noted that about 540,000 Kenyan youths are currently working abroad through labour mobility programs and are improving their livelihoods.

He further revealed that approximately 263 MPs are working on setting up ICT hubs across the country to expand employment opportunities in the technology sector.

“In the ICT sector we can create jobs for young people and they sustain themselves as they contribute to the economy,” he said.

The president also urged young people to tap into the growing creative economy and use social media platforms to develop and monetize their talents.

“I want every young person to pay attention to what we are doing to take advantage of the opportunities we are creating to help themselves and help the country grow,” he said.

He concluded by warning youth against being drawn into political conflicts or propaganda campaigns.

“Let nobody use you to cause chaos or do blogging for them or any political work. You also have children and your own life.” he said.
